Face jowls are present along the jaw line and are defined as bags of skin in which droop lower than the jaw. They usually form due to the loss of collagen which is a common affect of ageing and is usually accompanied by loss of cheek strength causing the skin to gravitate down. This causes a loose jaw line appearance with reduced definition.
Other factors in which can affect Jowl formation include lifestyle choices such as excessive weight and smoking. Sun exposure can also affect this along with chronic stress and your genetic predisposition.
While jowls are harmless, some people may feel uncomfortable about how they look. At Klnik we have a number of options existing to treat them. This includes:
- Radio frequency: using heat to penetrate to the lowest skin level to give a lifting effect.
- Jaw filler: to straighten the appearance of the jaw to soften the jowl appearance.
- Dual Hi: to lift the skin and give a smoother more defined look
- Botox: to cause muscle relaxation to reduce jowl formation
Avoid smoking - The chemicals found cigarettes can result in skin damage and loss of laxity
Limit your exposure to the sun - You should always apply factor 50 and reduce your time in the sun.
Limit your screen time - looking at a screen all day at a angle can increase Jowl formation.
Moisturise - everyday to keep skin at its best health
Live a healthy life style - including plentiful amount of water everyday.
Exercise - to remain at a healthy weight and a normal body fat percentage.

The term “jowls” is often used to describe sagging skin below your chin or jawline. Almost everyone develops jowls as they age. It happens because your skin becomes thinner and less elastic over time.

Radio frequency, Dual Hi and facial filler and Botox.

Depending on which treatment you have the down time will vary. However all our treatments have next to no down time.
-
As we get older, we loose collagen which results in the formation of a jowl like appearance.
-
It isn't thought that treatment for the jowls will cause any pain - Hifu and radio frequency is considered relaxing infact.
-
Extreme weight loss creates sagging jowls earlier or more drastically than normal.
-
HIFU DUAL HI will usually give the strongest non surgical face lift. Fillers can also help by adding volume.
-
Dermal filler results will be instant, whereas DUAL HI HIFU will take 3 months to allow for the production of new collagen and for it to grow in size, thus filling the lax skin and providing that lift. Dermal fillers will go hand in hand with HIFU treatment. We would normally recommend to have fillers 2 weeks after HIFU.

This can be assessed by our consultants. However, Coolsculpt and Aqualyx can definitely help to reduce volume where it is not wanted. Fat and collagen can migrate lower in the face as we age, due to gravity, creating unwanted pockets. Removing these can then allow for HIFU to lift and tighten. Filler can then be used to replace the lost collagen, adding volume to the right places in the face.
