What are spider veins and how do we treat them?
Telangiectasias or thread veins, more commonly known as spider veins, are a cluster of dilated blood vessels close to the surface of the skin. Due to this position they can often become visible in which can cause many people to take action in reducing them.
People who sit down for long periods of time are more likely to develop spider veins compared to people who are more active. They are also more common as we age and become apparent in pregnancy due to hormonal changes within the body. Other causes include sunlight damage and injury.
At Klnik we offer a number of treatments which can reduce the appearance of spider veins. These include:
Sclerotherapy - a substance is injected in which causes them to shrink.
Laser - this causes the deterioration of the vessels by the use of laser light pulses.

It is important to keep the face cool for 24-48 hours post treatment. This includes avoiding exercise, steam rooms, and generally any heat on the face. Mils products can be applied. However, retinols, AHA's, glycolic acid and hydroquinone should be avoided for a minimum 3 days after the procedure.
Sun cream must be worn daily, and sun should generally be avoided on the area long term to reduce the chance of their return.

Vessels can appear darker during and after the session as the blood coagulates. With KLNIK's cryocooler and gel applied to the skin most clients do not need any additional numbing or pain relief. The vessels can take a few weeks to be reabsorbed by the body, but typically this is instant and vessels disappear during the session, The skin can be sensitive post treatment so it's best to avoid heat and strong products for several days. Makeup can be applied after the session but It is better to wait until the pores are closed and the skin has cooled down. Side effects are extremely rare, however some vessels can cause very small blisters and bruising.

This is patient dependent. You will need to book a consultation with an aesthetician. Some vessels can go in one session but many can take up to 3 sessions, If you have an underlying condition such as rosacea then treatments can be ongoing as you will produce new vessels again in the future.

Immediate, most clients do not have a recovery time and can go straight back to work. It is possible to have some residual redness on certain areas for a few days, these can be covered with makeup.
LED light therapy can also be undertaken post treatment and further speed up the recover time and results.

Vessels will be reabsorbed immediately after the session or over the next few weeks, leaving clearer brighter skin.
-
The laser/IPL is attracted to red pigment, targeting the haemoglobin within the blood vessels. The energy from the IPL/Laser causes the membrane to shatter and coagulation of the blood vessel. Some will instantly shatter leaving clear skin immediately!

It is better to leave 2 weeks before a sunny holiday, and also wear factor 50 sun cream and a sun hat. You must also wait a minimum of 2 weeks after sun exposure for your next session. Some clients may need another skin test.

“ Spider veins can be unsightly and give a confidence boost once treated. They are positioned close to the surface of the skin, often resulting in visibility. With the use of laser we can redirect the veins to deeper levels to reduce their appearance. Often multiple treatments are required ”
