What is pigment and what can we do to treat it?
Melanin is natural found within the skin and is responsible for its colour. When the cells within the skin that procude Melanin become damaged this can affect melanin production which in turn affects the tone of the skin.
There are different variations of pigmentation but most are caused by UV damage. This can either be natural light from the sun or from the use of sunbeds. This highlights the importance of involving a suncream within your daily routine to ensure your skin is protected. However, if you have already been subject to pigmentation then Klnik could have the answer for you.
Our IPL and laser handpiece emits light which is attracted to the melanin inside the lesions. The lesion heats up and dries out, sometimes forming a scab, particularly superficial pigment. The natural skin renewal process causes the lesion to then shed over the following few weeks. Multiple sessions will be needed to create an even skin tone. The stronger the colour difference usually the better the chance of removal, as the melanin is distinguishable from the skin tone, making it easier for the laser and IPL to locate.
We can also recommend a variation of skin care products such as Obaji and Zo as an alterantive to laser. Hydroquinone is proven to reduce pigmentation under the eyes with frequent use.
